Restorative Justice Initiative Associate Board
The Restorative Justice Initiative (RJI) Associate Board is a group of passionate early to mid-career professionals who share RJI’s vision for justice in New York City: we wish to build stronger communities, promote individual and institutional accountability, and provide everyone access to prevention and healing from interpersonal and systemic harm.
What to Expect on the Associate Board
The purpose of RJI’s Associate Board is to support RJI’s mission by:
- Expanding awareness of restorative justice in NYC, of RJI’s core programs and role as a hub for RJ in the city.
- Raising funds through creative, peer-driven campaigns and special events.
- Building a pipeline of future leaders and board members.
- Serving as ambassadors for restorative practices in workplaces and local communities.
- Recruiting volunteers, who will sometimes serve as liaisons between RJI and the community.
- Providing pro bono skills.
Associate Board Member Responsibilities:
- Board Meetings: Prepare for, attend, and actively participate in Associate Board and committee meetings, once every other month
- Fundraising & Events: Host 3-4 annual fund/friendraising events (e.g., social justice-themed panels, happy hours, trivia nights, or arts events).
- Outreach & Awareness: Use professional/social networks to introduce RJI to new audiences.
- Skill-Sharing: Offer pro bono expertise (marketing, design, legal, tech, finance, social media, event planning, etc.)
- Learning & Leadership: Participate in RJI cohort-based trainings, community circles, and/or Citywide Roundtables on Restorative Approaches to deepen understanding of restorative justice and RJI’s work
