Practitioner Spotlight: Javon Lomax

The Practitioner Spotlight is a series where we feature an interview with a restorative practitioner to uplift the folks doing the work on the ground in our communities, highlight original and emerging applications for restorative justice, and provide a better understanding of restorative practices as applied in different contexts.

In our latest episode, we get to know how restorative justice shaped how our guest, Javon Lomax, moved through the world. Javon brings a wealth of experience as the Director of Restorative Practices for We Build the Block, a nonprofit organization committed to helping youth impacted by harm. His work underscores the potent healing power of storytelling and restorative circles.

”…They can sit in front of someone who’s an emotionally mature adult, someone who is courageously wearing vulnerability and saying, I went through this, this was my story. And now I’m not only telling you, ‘Hey, this is a safe space.’ I’m being brave enough to create this safe space by saying, I feel safe with you. And I want you to know that you can feel safe with me. And so by creating that space through vulnerability, that pivot happens.”
